Have you heard of this band/song/artist?

A thread where you can discuss bands/songs/artists you recently have discovered and you want to praise and ramble about. Maybe another poster have heard of them and you can have a good music discussion, now wouldn't that be something ;)

I recently heard a song from Jace Everett, the man who made the theme to Tru blood.

He has a really awesome country feel to his songs and i can definitely recommend "That's the kind of love i'm in" or of course "Bad things" I wasn't sure if i would be into that genre but he really mixes it up a lot and makes the songs feel unique and i love his voice.

Speaking of country, I watched 'Crazy Heart' recently and fell in love with the theme song. The Weary Kind, by Ryan Bingham. I haven't heard anything else by him, but it's a really nice song.

That's actually a really good song(The weary kind by Ryan Bingham), he sligthly reminds me of Johnny cash who was all kinds of awesome. I was amused the Johnny cash did a cover of a Nine inch nail song " Hurt"  It is by far my favorite song from Johnny cash, it has so much emotion in it.

ohh, I really liked the Johnny Cash cover of "Hurt". Actually, I didn't even know it was a cover for a while. I need to download that song.

That entire last album of Johnny Cash's is incredible. Covers of "Hurt," "Personal Jesus," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "In My Life," plus some original stuff. It's a heartbreakingly powerful listen.

Agreed.  Never thought i would willingly listen to country but he is really special. There's so much emotion in his songs and i can't help but listen to them a lot. Plus he has an incredible voice.

People always say "I listen to everything, except country, that is". Is country really so bad? I don't mind it. One morning I left the radio on a country/bluegrass station and heard a lot of good stuff.

On a similar note, people say the samething about rap. I always hear people saying they hate rap and dismissing it all as stupid. I like to think I have an open mind about every genre.

i think that people say stuff like that because there's a common misconception about who listens to country and rap. You know, there's an idea that people who listens to country are hicks and people that listens to rap are all about guns and drugs, it's of course a stereotype that isn't true at all.

I know better now, i will have to give country another try =)

Blah, blah, blah… now go get some pussy.

Ah Johnny Cash, I love the American IV: The Man Comes Around album. He's got that really low, growly voice, which is almost emotionless and dejected, but I think that's what makes his cover of "Hurt" work so well. I do like the original, but I think the creepy feel of the vocals and oddly placed notes in the music of the nine inch nails version don't convey the sentiment quite as well. Cash just sounds like a lost old man lamenting his situation (in a good way!)

oddly enough I haven't heard any of these songs. would love to though. It'd be nice to hear songs that are more….Sappho-centric, if you will.

Well, I love Lacuna Coil. lovely rock band straight outta Italia.

Deep, deep stuff.

Ludovico Einaudi I recently came across. Really chilled, beautiful, instrumental music. Predominantly piano based. Nightbook, I Giorni, Oltremare, Divenire are some of my faves.

Anyone else familiar with God is an Astronaut? Great band not massively well known. Again instrumental but different genre. (post-rock, instrumental, ambient, experimental,) are some of the last.fm tags for them. Some of my faves are Lost Symphony, Route 666, Zodiac, Suicide By Star.

p.s I love Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. I find it more moving than NIN's. :)

I love good instrumental bands, so i'll have to check those out. Have you heard anything from E.S Posthumus? They make some wicked instrumental music, i would recommend Pompeii for your first listen if you havent heard of them. Also this german band called E nomine is cool too.

Yeah, his version is much more moving. :)

Yeah E.S Posthumus, very cool. Ebla and Nara are my faves.

Not familiar with E. nomine though. Will have to check 'em out.

I listen to a load of film score music too. Clint Mansell is a legend. :)
