I am really into equality gaming and stuff like that, and really like seeing lesbians IN games (not just having to squint and side-eye to call two women together), so, I was really interested to come upon a few lesbian indie game devs who make games for gay people.

Of course, people have to always be assholes. :|

http://kinougames.blogspot.com…..lemma.html

I've been following this group's upcoming game, which is like a raising sim thing and you can make the main character a lesbian or straight if you want (and her dads appear to be gay, but don't quote me~), she actually has some really awesome roles and there is one super hot preview picture of a character called Persephone: http://ougaming.deviantart.com…..-203192958

I think it's just sad that they were forced out of a group so they didn't have to sit around getting insulted all day for daring to be girls, lesbians, and into gaming.

I think that anyone is able to play any game, no matter whether the target audience for straight or gay. It is preferable that a game is universal in the sense that anyone can relate to one or more characters.

If I understand the story (sorry if this is not the case, because English is unfortunately not my native language), critics have meant to cause you problems because they no have not liked the fact that there are gay characters, right?

If so, I'd like to send a message to these people if I can:

WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM ASSHOLES?!?!?

Anyway, I hope one day that I can help you, because I will like to participate in a group of game developers (Right now I'm at the end of my second session at college).

Awww, it's not my group, but the blog says they always take volunteers so you should email them if you want to help. :) I'm just glad that someone finally flat out decided to do stuff just for us, made by us, not fap material for straight guys.

But yeah, some people on the forum made some comments about how "gays are weird and ew!" and the group got offended and asked the mod for help, and the mod didn't do anything, and instead let everyone just talk about how it's okay to say bad things about gay people.

So the group left the forum and made this blog post.

I hope that forum dies in a hole and these guys get superfamous for gay gaming. Just to see more people making gay games, I'd buy everything they had even if I didn't like it.

Re: the blog post:

It's funny how the folks who "don't believe in identity politics" tend to see themselves as society's default: the straight, white, cisgender dude. Which is actually a very narrowly defined identity indeed. Yet we are to suppose that lesbians and other "minorities" (as if most people are straight white, cisgender dudes — which they totally are not) represent a special interest and continually engage in the "identity politics" of defending their rights and gettin' uppiity, asking for outrageous things like AIDS funding or the legal ability to adopt. I really hate the term "identity politics", since it seems like the only time I hear it outside of books on queer theory is when somebody is upset with a so-called minority being uppity and visible.

I've actually never heard the term "identity politics" before reading this blog, but I immediately guessed what it was when they said that the guy was straight, white and cisgendered; funny how notorious they are for "not getting the point". But I guess they don't have to, either. After all, they can live as they please and be sanctioned, while the rest of us have to deal with hiding around and being killed on the street.

Kinou makes an interesting comment about how straight Americans think that 20% of America is gay even though only 10% is, because of the new gay media stuff that has been coming out. (I also read a similarly interesting study on men and women in a room, and how men thought that women were "taking over the conversation" when they contributed any more than about 30%.)

It's sad that their heads are so lodged up their own privileged bums that it only takes 30% of the total representation for them to feel their space is edged in on.

I'll do with this group if it can accept me (for reasons other than my current experience in the computer Science).

Know that although this is probably not for the same reason, I can understand how horrible it is to be attacked like this, because I've been on a forum for a clan in Team Fortress 2 where I was heavily criticized simply because I said I was a feminist. After this event, I landed here. By cons, we should not blame these people, but their actions and ideas that influence them.

Anyway, the rest I have to say about this situation, I suggest you read what I wrote here

Compare it to "transgender" and you might see what it means. :)

Basically, it's people who are born in the sex and gender that they identify with. For example, most of us here are ciswomen.

Um….no, not really.

Well that makes it clearer :) Thanks. So "cis" is the opposite of "trans" ? I don't really understand that, but ok.

Haters gonna hate. No matter what you are; a woman, a man, cis or transgendered, white, black, straight, bi or gay there will always be someone out there hating you for some inane reason Plus on the web there be trolls aplenty and hiding behind a user name can make the dumbest person brave and say stuff they would never dare to say in real life.

Looks like an interesting game idea they are working on.

Blah, blah, blah… now go get some pussy.

It's a chemistry term coined for usage because many transgender people dislike the idea of gender being biological, specifically in light of studies that have shown that transgender people tend to have a brain much more similar to their preferred gender than the gender they were AAB (assigned at birth).

Nimbo: Yeah, but the white straight cis men have to worry about being killed a lot less than any of those other people. Don't compare the plights too much, they're just not the same. =/

For some reason i disagree, maybe white cis straight men do have alot of shit going for them but that doesnt change that a lot of people hate them for being privileged and would probably fuck them up if they got the chance. The thing is, this game that people play "Oh i am so a minority, woe is me, i have it hardest." It is not a game you wanna win cause what is the award? Nothing. Just acknowledge that people have it hard and try and deal with that before you go around thinking that just cause someone is not gay doesnt mean they dont have it hard.

Blah, blah, blah… now go get some pussy.

Hello,

I am one of the mods for the community alluded to in kinougames' blog.  I heard about this thread, and I'm sad that a section of a post (that was generally positive about the game in question) has blown into a giant balloon of hurt feelings, insults, and polarization.

First, I would encourage anyone reading to actually view the posts in question before making up their minds and painting people as horrible bigots.  What kinou wrote was very one-sided, and there are at least two sides to any story.  The post in question that brought all this about is here: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/foru…..p;start=42

The section of the post was:  "Having

gays, lesbians, a bitch, a girl that kills herself and a girl that

wants to seduce a guy that could be his father for a cast… I couldn't

find a place to relate to at all D: I've always dealt with pretty

average/normal people, so everything was kind of weird >>;"

I can see where this would be offensive.  Knowing the author's history on the forum, though, I don't believe anything bad was meant by it, though.  She explained what she meant and apologized for the hurt feelings the post caused ( http://lemmasoft.renai.us/foru…..mp;start=1 ).  At this point I got an alert from kinou about the topic, which I hadn't seen before this.  I tried to diffuse the situation a bit and wrote this: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/foru…..p;start=27

As for mod action, the author had already clarified and apologized… I'm not sure what exactly kinou reasonably wanted from me.  Ban over a misunderstanding?  We generally try to encourage discussion over heavy-handed tactics when possible.

And now everyone's polarized and accusing everyone over everything… It's really sad and not constructive at all.

I will probably get tossed to the wolves, but I wanted to appeal to reason and state the other side of what actually happened.  LSF is actually really gay/lesbian friendly overall, so it's weird that such an issue arose.  There have been several gay/lesbian themed games that have been played, enjoyed, and complimented by members and mods.  We are not against you.

No offense, I don't know you, but your mod just used the n-word on kinou's blog.

You're wrong, he's wrong, sorry, but that's it. The game is over, the Tom guy ended it. There's no defense for that.

Nimbo: no one goes out white bashing or straight bashing. if you can find specific studies where people did this, maybe I will believe you.

I don't know what went on over there with anyone else, but if I am "wrong" please let me know what I am wrong about.  Like any other human, I am sometimes wrong, and I don't close my mind to that possibility.  But you'll have to let me know what I did that is the issue.  Kinou brushed off the author's sincere apology and chose to continue to inflame the topic.  Many on the forum did not appreciate that, and so kinou probably took it very personally.  If you read the split thread, it paints a different picture than the blog does.

I read the thread. Kinou is right. A lot of not gay people came to straightsplain away things. An apology doesn't take away pain. It only makes the person who said it feel better. Even DEJI understands why her apologies did not work, but you don't?

Give it a break. Your mod, or you, don't know, someone from the community said the n-word when in the top of the post, kinou says there are brown-skinned people in the game. No matter what anyone did before that, that ended it. You guys are the ones that blew it up. Kinou has a right to say her piece, and she said it. You could have said your piece in your area and left it. Instead, you or your group or your mod, whatever, dogpiled kinou on her own blog and used the n-word when she said the group has brown people.

Nothing kinou said was inflaming. What was inflaming was how everyone thinks apologies actually mean something in the real world. Kinou even explained why they don't. Of course kinou would take it personally that everyone was saying that her life and the lives of gays should be so easily thrown off. Someone mentions in the thread that it wasn't Deji, or even the other commenters that made Kinou post it. Kinou says herself that it was the moderator's rude reaction, and rude comments, use of the n-word, and dismissiveness toward Kinou's concerns and asking for equality that got you posted. The thing you're complaining about isn't even the problem.

Please google the phrase "intent is not magical". It will explain everything you need to know and more about why everything kinou said was right, and why YOU should have stopped it before YOU let it get out of hand.

Read that again.  If this is what we're up against, then what can I say.

I guess the proper thing to do is to pile on the author over and over despite her clarification of intent and apologies?  Because that seems to be what kinou wanted to do, and that is what kinou got some heat for.

I never posted on kinou's blog, nor do I intend to.  Nor do I trust the summaries of events there given the one-sidedness and venom.

That's the last I'm going to say on the matter here.

You're condescending. If your comment is even a tiny indication of what your mod, you, whoever did to kinou, once again, my support is for them. You had more of a benefit of the doubt before you came here.
