Just wondering, anyone have an idol or hero? If so, who is it and why?

I do not necessarily idols or heroes, I rather people who I respect a lot that could be somehow my idols and my hero.
For the moment I have only two, the first being Quentin Tarantino because I find his films do not fit the stereotype of "good against evil" but rather a story where this director is living his characters (this is my personal opinion). The other person I want to talk about is Monique Wittig for me one of the true feminist I've ever seen in my life. The reason for this is that it takes a very strong universalism and unfortunately what is missing for many feminists. It is also thanks to her that I am now officially feminist somehow.

I'll give the obvious answer – Rachel Maddow. It's neat to see how far a lesbian geek can go

Here's an interesting one for you…I've always really admired Dolly Parton. She came from an extremely poor background and basically built herself up from nothing. She married her husband before she was famous and is still with him today, and she seems quite happy with her marriage. I admire the fact that she respects the fact that her husband does not like being in the media attention. I think she has a great sense of humor and doesn't take anything too seriously (I love the fact that she can joke about her own appearance). She's a great singer and I love the movies she's been in. Finally, she isn't a very politically person, but she has actively spoke out in support for gay marriage on many different occasions. Overall, I think she's just a really cool woman.
