Do you go to them? Yes? When was your first time? No? What's stopping you? Are you planning on going to one any time soon? And if you go, do you cosplay? Have you cosplayed before? Share with us!
Click to see my con-experience 8D
I lost my con-virginity last year at Chibicon '09. And I had an awesome time. I cosplayed as a random neko-otome. Maid-outfit, cat-ears, cat-tail, cat-paws it was all there XD My friend and I even had our little sign that said: "Please, hug me~! Nya~!" XD (I have to say it worked for me XD It was funny to experience. Lots of cute girls hugged me XD Hell one of them even almost kissed me (I'm serious). And I will never forget that Mikuru Asahina cosplayer.. Or her chest.. >.> *coughHUGEcough* They seriously pressed up against me XD (I wonder if I'll see her again this year XD). I also was part of a skit (I played Nekozawa), but it wasn't really that spectacular.
Anywho, I'll be going to Chibicon '10 coming Saturday. Same cosplay as last year, but this year I'm not the only one who will be cosplaying as this. My best friend will do the same. Oh and we also bought a pair of handcuffs (her idea, I swear!), so will be walking around cuffed to each other most of the day. That and we promised a friend of her we'd do a 'yuri photoshoot' for her, so we'll see how that will turn out XXD Either way, it will be a fun day! I will probably post some pictures on here, afterwards as well ^^9

If I were you I would just go. I mean you're not going there on your own if your friends go with you, so no worries about being alone and not knowing any one. And you can always a cosplay a next time. It's just an awesome experience! Seriously! Come on, gal! Just go, you will regret it eventually if you don't~ ;D

So. I go to Cons and things like PAX. Will be going to PAX this year dressed as Commander Shepard from Mass Effect. Last year it was the flight suit from Battlestar Galactica. (When the suit got a rip we poured blood out me ears and eyes and called it decompression). The year before was the X-Men outfit from the movie. My roommate dressed as Wonder Woman, the new Batwoman, and Starbuck from BSG. I was trying to get her to go as Miranda from ME but she said the outfit was a bit too form fitting for her. Granted it's not Japanese cosplay but we do have a blast dressing up and taking pics with people. This year at PAX should be interesting. It's probably the hardest costume I've ever put together but in the end totally worth it!
There is something very freeing about being someone else for just a little while. Cons are some of the best places to meet the best people. If you don't go you are missing out!

I was gonna post something much longer, but here's the short version:
I've been to Comic-Con twice, both times it was kind of a spur of the moment decision, so I didn't really go with anyone (but met up with a friend a couple days the first year I went) and didn't have time to plan anything.
Both were different experiences since I didn't really know what to expect the first time. The first year I volunteered for all four days – you sometimes get to see things you wouldn't normally see or wouldn't have thought of seeing when you volunteer. When I met up with my friend and her boyfriend that year, we watched Masquerade Night together, which was a blast! The second year I went (three years after my first time going), someone from another forum I go to hooked me up with a professional badge, so that was nice not having to wait in the normal long line to get in. I mostly went to a lot of panels the second year and I enjoyed them!
If you have the time & money to go, definitely go, especially if you have other people to go with. It's a fun experience and even more fun with friends.

I've been to a few anime cons of various sizes. The first one was Anime Expo when it was smaller. It was cool because a bunch of my friends were on staff so I could wander around behind the scenes with them. It was the first con where I registered for Artist Alley and sold a few things. I've never cosplayed though.

My first con was in May, it was Fanime. It was pretty fun, i met up with a bunch of people I didn't know that well and we became good friends. I don't really like how so much of it was centered around buying merchandise… I didn't find anything I wanted to buy either.
I will definitely go again next year, and maybe I can make myself a clever but easy to make costume. I just wish there was a yuri con, because that would be so much cooler, even if it had only a few hundred people instead of a few thousand. There is a Yaoi con in San Francisco but I couldn't find any mention of a Yuri con in America. Lame.

Been to a couple of cons myself. It's a unique experience, for sure, and going with friends make it a lot more fun, in my opinion. Cosplaying is fun, definitely a good way to start a conversation and meet new friends.
And besides, being at a place where everyone has the same interest is kinda cool.

@LF: Try not to think about it too much and just let it come over you. You'll have a great time, I'm sure ^^
I don't really worry about the con itself anymore, but more about how I get there.. I never remember those damn train schedules.. Luckely~ I go with some friends 8D That do know the schedule a bit, or atleast have the whole thing on paper 8D
And I hope I get enough sleep.. The thing is, I sleep at my best friend's place.. And we have to get up at 4 am… I doubt we will get a lot of sleep XD

Not to mention it's great to scare the crap out of people on the train or just make them go wtf! XD

There seems to be something called Yuricon.. They don't have, like, a real convention or anything, but they have several events. But from what I saw on their website, they don't seem to have done anything this year so far, nor do they seem to be doing anything for the next couple of months..

So got the top part of my armor on me which was a challenge all in itself.

I'll be wearing this to PAX this year. Anyone else out there going? It's one of the best to go to besides San Diego ComiCon.

Went to my first con last year (Dragon*Con). Most epic and mind blowing experience of my life. Basically just went to see Kate Mulgrew, but got sucked into the experience. Sadly it's going on as I type, but I'm 300 miles away :( Haven't been brave enough to cosplay yet, and have a feeling I never will. Was a solo adventure as well.

I lost my con virginity in 2008 at anime Boston. I flew over at my then-gf's request and had so much fun that I went to ConnectiCon that same year and again the year after. I also went to London's anime/manga con in 2009 and again in 2010 but it's been kinda disappointing so I think I'll give it a miss this year. I will, however, be attending the London sci-fi and comic con this summer. We're getting Christopher Lloyd, how can I not?
Also, for lols, my old cosplays –> clicky
There's a definite trend…

Aww shame it wasn't the year before. A group of us would go and we always put on a performance at the masquerade. Never won anything but according to youtube we were pretty popular.

i actually went on really short notice with my friend. we didnt even have a hotel room so we slept in his car on the first night. and in the manga room on the second, it was like our own little adventure, it made everything so much more fun. and i even met a couple of my other friends there. decided it would be fun to dress as i a ninja and a sign that said free hugs. and everyone was weary because i was a "ninja" and might back stab them or something. but they ended up hugging me. why not go again this year?

im in the black. ,my free hug sign is that piece of cardboard. and im holding mokona from xxxholic/tsubasa chronicles. and my friend is dressed in the white mask lol.

That sounds awesome. I was always dragged along with a large group so we used to all cram into two hotel room with mass bed sharing and people sleeping in chairs and under desks. It was a lot of fun.
The ninja cosplay looks really good. I'm sure there's some joke somewhere about how we shouldn't actually be able to see you in the picture but I really can't think of it.
Money of course. Being in the UK means paying out for a flight and various transports before even worrying about the con and this year's been pretty expensive already so I'll have to give it a miss.

I try and make it a point to attend atleast 1 con a year! Vegas kinda sucks for conventions though, so we usually have to head out to California. I've been to San Diego Comic Con, Anime Expo, and an anime convention in Pahrump. (Yes, they have one. Crazy right?) I also love cosplaying! http://www.cosplay.com/member/181315/

I've once been to Collector Mania in England. I've yet to go to a real big Con (American style con's). Mainly due to lack of funds (insert sad poor grad student face). However, next year when Im a master of science (insert thunder and lightning), I will for SURE do some extreme conning (is that even a word?:P)
