The female voices of Mass Effect 2

We’re lesbians, we love women and for that reason and because it is one heck of a slow news worthy week we’re going to take a peek at some of the lovely ladies who are lending their voices to Mass Effect 2. Yes, that’s right, sequel to one of very few games that actually let us play a lesbian character, for that, we have to salute it and hope this sequel lends us the same equal opportunity. After the jump we check out who you’ll be hearing from in Mass Effect 2, some you’ll recognize from other places.

Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda Lawson
If the name looks familiar you’re either Australian or a fan of geek show Chuck. Yvonne is the Aussie actress who plays secret agent Sarah Walker in Chuck and it’s her breathing vocals into the character of Miranda Lawson is Mass Effect 2. Lawson is a squad member in Mass Effect 2 and a human informant, described by developers as the female lead. She’s a Cerberus operative who has been genetically engineered for superior mental and physical traits.

Jennifer Hale as Commander Shepard
No surprise that Jennifer Hale is back voicing the female Shepard, yay for continuity! As well as a few TV roles, Hale is also noted in the gaming realm for having voiced a multitude of characters including Ophelia in Brutal Legend, Jennifer Mui in Mercenaries 2 and of course Samus Aran in a couple of Metroid outings. She’s a video game voice veteran with so many credits to her name we can’t cover them all here.

Courtenay Taylor as Subject Zero?
With a fair bit of cross-over with other voice actresses in Mass Effect 2, Taylor too has voiced characters in Brutal Legend, inFamous and Dragon Age: Origins. Given her previous voice work, like the dominatrix demon in Brutal Legend we’re guessing it’s her that voices Subject Zero, we don’t know for sure.

Kimberly Brooks as Ashley Williams
Another video game veteran (though not to the extent of Hale by any means) Brooks is the voice of the girl a lot of lesbians wished was the romantic interest in Mass Effect, none other than Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams. Brooks returns so yay for continuity again. As well as Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, Brooks has done a fair few video game voiceovers, including Oracle in Batman Arkham Asylum and female soldiers in Metal Gear Solid 4.

Carrie-Ann Moss as Aria T’Loak
Aria T Loak is a character of mystery and someone not to be messed with. She’s an Asari ruler of Omega. Actress Carrie-Ann Moss will voice her and you all know who that is we assume since she played Trinity in The Matrix films and danced her ass off with Christina Cox in the Lilith Fair DVD. One of her coolest lines in Mass Effect 2 is “Don’t Fuck with Aria” and she’s so intimidating we would never do such a thing…. seriously.

Maggie Baird as Samara
Samara is a kick ass Asari justicar and mercenary. She is rumored to be an Asari squad member in Mass Effect 2 and perhaps have some relation to Liara (though this is pure speculation with some suggesting Samara is Liara’s other parent). She kicks ass with biotic powers and she’s not too hard on the eye either.

Liz Sroka as Tali’Zorah nar Rayya
Or as we like to refer to her ‘can’t think of a name, I’ll hit random keys on my keyboard!”. Tali you may recall also appeared in Mass Effect and was favorite to many gamers. In Mass Effect 2 Tali is in a spot of bother and that leads her to once again join Commander Shepard on her quest.

Shohreh Aghdashloo as Admiral Shala’Raan vas Tonbay
Not much is known at the moment about this character, but the husky voice of Iranian born actress Shohreh Aghdashloo is bound to bring loads of character. Shohreh Aghdashloo is presently appearing in TV series Flash Forward, she’s the woman – Nhadra Udaya – who tells Agent Noh he’s going to be killed.

Tricia Helfer as EDI [the voice of the new Normandy]
OMG! SQUEE!!!! Tricia Helfer from Battlestar Galactica is going to be the voice of the new Normandy! Imagine the sultry voice of Number Six letting you know how things are going on board.

Those are your main ladies. Not long to go until they’re cooing in our ears!

And the Boys…
For those wanting to know a few of the male voice actors in mMass Effect 2, you’re in for a treat if you’re a sci-fi fan. They include: Michael Hogan as Captain Bailey (Colonel Tigh in Battlestar Galactica); Adam Baldwin as Kal ‘Reegar (Jayne in Firefly); and Michael Dorn as Gatatog Uvenk (Worf in STNG & DS9). Returning are Seth Green as Joker and Keith David as Admiral David Anderson. Martin Sheen will also play the mysterious Illusive Man who commands Cerberus, a secretive paramilitary organization dedicated to protecting human interests in the galaxy.
