Video Game News Roundup of the week! – BioShock 2 Limited Edition, Saboteur, Starcraft II and more

Here we are with all the bigger gaming news stories you may have missed this week. We’ve sieved through the copious amounts of gaming garbage to come up with all the news worthy items you might want to know before next weeks run of stories begin. Catch them all after the jump.

The Saboteur goes Gold, pandemic Studios goes quiet
Despite Pandemic Studios being in the midst of losing some 200 of its employee force, their game The Saboteur went gold this week without so much as a mutter. The game is due out on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and has gone gold across all three formats. It’s released the start of next month. Condolences to those who find themselves at the sharp end of the employee cut.

No Radha Mitchell for Silent Hill 2 movie?
Doesn’t look like Radha Mitchell will be back in the next Silent Hill offering (assuming it ever makes it into actual production). Producer Don Carmody thinks they need to take the sequel in a new direction, one that opens the film up to the movie going public. One can probably take this to mean all those nuances we saw in the first film that were a wonderful homage to fans of the game will be lost. Mitchell meanwhile is presently working on a new US TV pilot in which she plays a detective (The Quickening), now you know we’re going to tune in for that.

GCHQ allegedly advertising on Xbox dash
If you don’t know what GCHQ is, shame on you, don’t you watch Spooks?! GCHQ is the UK’s Government Communication Headquarters and apparently they think Xbox gamers have the edge they’re looking for in new recruits. Ads are allegedly running on the Xbox 360 dash in the UK, looking for people to join the service. They work with MI5 and MI6, so if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Jane Bond, get in there.

New Rock Band DLC includes Pink and Kelly Clarkson
… and The Go Go’s for those of us old enough to remember those rockin chicks. You’ll be able to sing along with Pink – Who Knew, Kelly Clarkson – Miss Independent and The Go Go’s – Our Lips Are Sealed. There’s also a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers anthology pack.

BioShock 2 Special Edition looks sweet!
The Bioshock 2 Special Edition extra’s look pretty sweet. Sadly there’s no Big Sister action figure, but there will be A 12″ Vinyl LP with BioShock orchestral score, Audio CD with BioShock 2 orchestral score, three vintage Rapture advertisement posters (rolled), BioShock 2 Art Book, 164 pages and hardcover and of course the BioShock 2 game. It will set you back $150 AUD.

Starcraft fans heads up – Website update
If you’re eagerly awaiting the release of Starcraft II you might want to head over to the official site StarCraft2.com and check out the new info that went up this week. It’s all pretty sweet.

Crazy email of the week – Australians are retards
No ‘Petey’ Australians aren’t retards because of the points you make in your email. “Petey” is from Iowa and apparently thinks Australians are all backwater hicks with no idea about video games. We’re still not sure why his vitriol came our way, but we thought we’d use it as an opportunity to set the record straight. Petey thinks Australians edit all games because “you can’t look after your children”. Once again do we need to point this out!!…. Games get edited on rare occasion here because the Aussie video game ratings only allow for a maximum of a 15+, meaning they can only be bought by someone who is 15 years old or older. Other places have an 18+ rating (or equivalent) so you see the issue. As silly as it is, Australian gamers are calling for the 18 rating be added to video games ratings. This doesn’t make all Australians idiots, this means the rating board here is merely out of touch with video games. There was a whole heap of other crap in his email, but I’ll save you all the pain.

Till next week, adios and happy gaming!
