Virtual pre-order bonuses ruining geek shelves everywhere? A rant and call to arms.

Virtual pre-order bonuses ruining geek shelves everywhere? A rant and call to arms.

I like to collect gaming guff. I like my office shelves adorned with gaming / geek crap and I like getting said crap for free, or a little bit more than the regular price of a game. So what’s with all this virtual bonus stuff more and more games are doing? Pre-order at this store and you’ll get this virtual gun in-game, pre-order here and you’ll get this costume or piece of virtual equipment no one else has. Now color me jaded, but shouldn’t this stuff just be available in the game regardless? So you miss out if you don’t live in a certain country and pre-order from a certain store?

I don’t want virtual crap, because I can’t put virtual crap on my shelf (at least not until I have a virtual shelf!). I want REAL crap, so quit pretending I’m getting something cool when IT’S NOT REAL! Come on people stand with me on this because you know what’s next don’t you, paying for virtual crap other people got for ‘free’ when they pre-ordered a game from a specific store, but you can get it via DLC. Yes that’s right, you’ll be paying extra for something that isn’t real… now that’s no good is it.

End virtual crap abuse NOW, call for plastic / resin crap to be returned to its rightful place, inside overpriced “limited edition” video games, because at least then your shelves will be as full as your hearts! Remember fellow gamers, tangible beats virtual when it comes to pre-order bonuses… well unless it’s some truckers cap bonus… then you’re screwed virtually and otherwise… well other than that lesbian with the mullet there from Dicksonville USA.. we know you’re a happy camper.

I confess I like extra virtual crap for MMOs. I wish I had gotten the Aion CE for the pretty extra wings, and I regret having missed the first two WoW CEs and the pets they came with.
But for non-MMOs, I am quite in agreement!
(I also use my spiffy mouse pad from the latest WoW CE, so they, at least, give you REAL crap with their virtual crap. ;) )

I indeed agree that its much cooler to get little collectables even if its worthless junk than stupid in-game bonuses.
I just pre-ordered Dragon Age, i decided to get it from amazon because they offered a $10 giftcard, I really had my heart set on the collectors edition but it wasn’t worth the extra cash. Alot of the collector’s edition stuff was stupid like “making of” movies and a desktop picture, not to mention even more in-game items. The cloth map was a cool idea but really not compelling enough. How about a poster? That would have sealed the deal for me.
