Here we are returning with your gaming news roundup for the week. Here we will trawl the news and pick out what we think are the big stories of the past week. We’ll be doing this every Friday and if something massive breaks late in the day US times, we’ll edit it in so don’t be afraid to check back. Now onward!
DSi XL released Japan November US and Europe Q1 2010
Does anyone really care about this? A DS with a larger – 4.5 inch – screen? The DSi LL (Japan) and XL in the US / Europe features a screen 93% larger than the current Nintendo DS Lite with a better view angle, an additional longer touch screen stylus, and preinstalled Nintendo DSiWare software..” I’m having flashbacks to all those Gameboy iterations we saw from Nintendo.
Awesome UK viral ad for L4D2 released
And there’s not much else to say really, other than it’s below, enjoy and for non UK folk a “strimmer” is a “weed whacker” in the US.
Modern Warfare 2 hits stumbling block in Oz
If you haven’t heard about the “leaked footage” for Modern Warfare 2, where have you been. It’s caused major outrage and now of course the Australian censors are at it again with their antiquated “save the children save the children” blinded views. Yes kids it’s okay to see terrorism and suicide bombers on the news when it’s REAL, just not in video games. Will it be banned?
Nolan North wants Hug Jackman… for Nathan Drake role
In a recent interview Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North said he’d like Hugh Jackman to take on the role of Drake in a movie adaptation. North who is a handsome guy and not unlike Nathan Drake thinks the film would need a big name due to the “reality of the business”. I think Jackman is a great choice, how about you?
Dragon Age Origins sex at BitMob
Thought this was a really interesting piece so I’m linking to it in the news roundup. Demian Linn over at BitMob has taken a look at the sexual encounters in Dragon Age: Origins and it includes some interesting – if stereotypical – gay encounters. He’s waiting on BioWare getting back to him regarding any lesbian relationships in game, but it’s an interesting read none the less.
BioShock 2 Capture the Sister multiplayer mode
Would you kindly take a look at the following video which reveals the kind of creepy, kind of terrifying and really kind of cool “Capture the sister” mode in upcoming title BioShock 2. I guess Capture the Sister is a better name than “Capture the Flesh Flag”, which is essentially what this is.
Bayonetta release dates revealed
Assuming you’re waiting for this title, that’s beginning to look more and more like the most over-sexualised female gaming character ever (at least due to the over the top “marketing” campaign thus far accompanying it), here’s the release dates. Bayonetta will be out in the US January 5, Australia and New Zealand January 7 and Europe January 8.
Wee for a Wii station pays 16 million to family
You might recall this story, if not here’s a short recap. Back in January 2007 Sacramento radio station KDND FM held a contest to win a Wii. The Wii had just released and was a hot item, so participants were happy to do whatever it took to win one. The idea was to drink copious amounts of water and hold it in. Problem being this can cause water intoxication where your body poisons itself. Mom of 3 Jennifer Strange died after coming 2nd in the contest. Now the station has been ordered to pay her family 16 million dollars.
