Beyond Good & Evil 2 release in doubt

News that will probably upset more than a few sees a Beyond Good & Evil 2 release now in doubt. Ubisoft head honcho Laurent Detoc has been talking about new IPs and referenced Beyond Good & Evil 2 stating “sometimes you come back to an IP that didn’t work because you still think it could have – like Beyond Good and Evil, which was leaked, so now people know we’re working on a new one. Whether or not it comes out remains to be seen”. He then went on to add “Well, I didn’t say there’s definitely going to be another game. I said something had leaked, which means we’ve been working on some Beyond Good and Evil stuff, but whether there’s going to be another game or not, that’s something for the future.”

Who else is gutted by the tone of his statements? Though the Beyond Good & Evil 2 footage was leaked, surely if they were not thinking of releasing another game they should have just clarified that, rather than getting a lot of fans of the first game extremely excited and hopeful?

    NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I was pretty excited by the concept of BG&E 2. Hopefully, Brütal legend won’t get stopped by Actiblizzion, pretty much the only other game I’m really looking forward to.

While I definetly believe that all companies respond to leaks with obscure statements of neutrality… you also have to remember that the economy isnt so great and they might run out of money for games like BG&E.
That being said… the first game was awesome and if the leak is part of a new game it looks fabulous. I can’t wait to jump back into government conspiracies, photo-journalism, and Jade’s sassy character.
With the visuals that great its hard to believe theres not a game coming out… maybe as soon as 2010
