Straight love sucks in gaming

I’m playing inFamous at the moment on PS3 and something struck me the other day whilst wandering the inFamous cityscape and it was how much love sucks in some straight gaming relationships. I can’t spoil the story, but suffice to say.. the girlfriend is a lame ass.

I’ve had this feeling before in games, or the feeling that the love story was tacked on as a formulaic way of making the game have some emotional depth, and it totally detracts. Anyone else got any examples of bad straight gaming love? Yeah, we’re sure there’d be some bad gay love too, but what with the lack of lesbian / gay relationships in gaming, we can’t go there yet.

I’m going back through and playing Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption for the PC and I’d say it definitely qualifies. What the two say to each other is so ridiculous I can barely force myself to watch the main storyline play out.

First one i can think of is “Alone in the dark” there was no hint what so ever that the main char would have any interest in the woman(forgot her name -.-) and out of nowhere they’re kissing, i’m like wtf? It definitely felt like it was added as an afterthought.
