How not to deal with homosexuality in gaming

Kotaku has a fairly thoughtful piece up – I know, who’d have thunk it – titled “How Not To Address Homosexuality In Gaming”. The short article by Mike Fahey looks at the recent Bioware fiasco and the issue of homosexuality in gaming in other instances.

Fahey discusses an easter egg in SimCopter placed there by a gay employee and the furor it caused when discovered. Also covered is the WoW fiasco and the more recent Microsoft gay gamer incidents. Closing statements about intolerance online seem to agree with what we think is also a major issue. Anyway we thought it was a fairly interesting article.

   Miracles never cease. I thought kotaku had lost the ability to actually write gaming news or articles without being sexist children.
   It is nice to see that now and again they can actually cover a topic like proper journalists, as opposed to the immature mess its turned into over the last year or two.

   Kotaku has become the scourge of gaming news. I used to be a regular there, but the fan boys and failing writing styles of its “staff” left me somewhat wanting for intellect. I am surprised this link sees Fahey not mention “boobies,” “panties,” or other “gaming” talk.

   I’m not gay, but I like this site. I don’t see why homosexuality is even an issue in gaming. Games are usually set in other times / spaces and who is to say that in those spaces being gay is just how it is? That is how it should be here also, people are just so stupid they don’t see history for what it is, that being a repetitive joke.

   Wait, what? I almost thought I was in an alternate reality until I started reading the usual batch of idiotic bigoted ill-informed comments to the article.
   At least they’re trying.
