Xbox Originals you should check out

Original Xbox games can be a hoot, if you know what you’re looking for. Add to this original Xbox titles can be picked up cheap and you’ve got a bargain as well. New adopters that only came in at the Xbox 360 might not know what gems they missed on the original Xbox.

For this reason we thought we’d bring you the LG’s picks of backward compatible original Xbox games. It’s a mixed bag and we’d love to hear your suggestions comments on those we missed, those you loved, or those you hated.

Full list below

Alias

Alias – Alright so the game isn’t great, it’s Alias aka Sidney Bristow on a games console, what more could you possibly want or need. Given this was released back in 2004 you might be able to get it cheap. Crap game, but if you like Alias.. might be worthwhile.

Buffy

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Need we say more, it’s Buffy and it’s smart. Sure it’s a bit repetitive, who cares, there’s wit and staking vamps. The original Buffy game was released by EA way back in 2002.

Buffy Chaos Bleeds

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds – Sequel to the aforementioned Buffy game, Chaos Bleeds was released 2003. More of the same, with more characters – including the one and only Spike.

Burnout Take Down

Burnout 3: Takedown – Awesome game in the Burnout franchise. Despite being released back in 2004 this game is seen by many fans as being better than the more recently released Burnout Paradise.

Fable

Fable – Released back in 2004 this was one cool RPG title. This title apparently works on the 360, but does suffer some frame rate dips. Still worth trying, an awesome game for RPG fans… and don’t forget Fable II is on the way to 360.

Fatal Frame II

Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly – Creepy survival horror, a little slow for action fans, but a truly cool and creepy game. Released back in 2003 this is a must for survival horror fans and budding photographers!

Grabbed by the Ghoulies

Grabbed by the Ghoulies – Not a huge seller and garnered very mixed reviews. Grabbed by the Ghoulies is a silly / fun game by Rare that failed to live up to their other titles. Still we liked this a lot, it was cute and fun. Released in 2003.

Halo 1 and 2

Halo & Halo 2 – We’re adding them to the list because it’s Halo and if you bought Halo 3 you were probably disappointed. Halo 2 is very cool, but short like Halo 3, still if you like the Halo universe, these are must haves.

Indigo Prophecy

Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit) – Awesome game. Character driven game with a fantastic story. Whilst you wait on Quantic Dream’s upcoming Heavy Rain, why not play through this. It’s also out on Xbox originals for download.

JSRF

Jet Set Radio Future (aka Jet Grind Radio) – Cel-shaded class, that’s how we at the LG would describe it. A few back compatible issues, but might be worth a look, loads of fun and very stylish. Originally released in 2002.

Oddworld

Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee – Apparently this one is compatible, but not without its issues. If you can get it to work though this is a really cool game. Play it and tell us you don’t love the squeak of Munch’s wheelchair.

Sega Soccer Slam

SEGA Soccer Slam – Silly non realistic soccer game that is fun with a group of friends, at least it was for us. First released back in 2002 this game features mad characters and insane ‘soccer’ action.

KOTOR

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – It’s otherwise known as KOTOR and also has a sequel called Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and you’ve probably played them, so why is it even on this list.. just on the off chance you haven’t.

Ghost Recon

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon – All of them, be it the original, Island Thunder, number 2, or Summit Strike. Really cool on XBL in co-op mode. Sure GR:AW looks nicer and features some of the old maps, but sometimes older can be fun too… rules for life ladies, ask those wise OWL’s.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this look back at what original Xbox titles we think may be worthy of your attention. If you’ve got some original Xbox titles that are backward compatible and you think people would enjoy, why not add them to our comments.
