Secret Diary of a Lesbian Gamer has an interesting piece up about the banning of a lesbian on the Xbox Live service. According to the gamer in question she was banned for having ‘lesbian’ in her bio information. She was harassed and eventually it was she that was banned as opposed to those harassing her.

According to the gamer in question she was banned for having ‘lesbian’ in her bio information. She was harassed and eventually it was she that was banned as opposed to those harassing her.
You know we’ve have our gripes about the way both MS and Sony choose to deal with homophobes on their services. Their way is essentially to disallow any mention of gay, lesbian and other key words. There really needs to be a tabled discussion about this issue and one that has an outcome where the bullies are those dealt with, as opposed to the victims.
On the off chance ‘Teresa’ sees this, email us, we’d like a chat.

The zine wasn’t supposed to be used as a defence for queers but I have no choice but to say something. I can just see the faces of my non-gamer friends buying *A* console for however much only to be told ‘your queer and we don’t want you here,Buy the 360 & even buy the queer friendly Fable 2 but don’t expect thanks cos were gonna find you and kick you out!’

This kind of hypocrisy needs to stop. I’m all for joining LG to get the message loud and clear to MS.
I was wondering if you’d seen this, because I was so furious I nearly sent you an email when this came through my reader. Glad to see that Microsoft is dedicated to being a part of the problem.
And it’s good to know that while Xbox Live is the preferred online gaming service for sexual predators, Microsoft is taking care of the REAL problems.
Yet more from MS. I saw this over on gaygamer net and decided to see what you folks had to say on the matter.
I must say I’ve had little issue with Sony so far – last August when I attended pride I updated my status to “Off to Pride parade!” or something similar and didn’t get any complaints. I’ve yet to add anything to my main profile though.
I think it’s truly disgusting that MS can get away with this hypocrisy – if Live is anything like the PSN there’ll be hundreds of “Ladiesman” variations, something far cruder imo than having ‘lesbian’ in your profile!
