Video Gaming News Rundown – BioShock 2, LBP Delay, Maniac Mansion and more

It’s been a bumper gaming week this week as yet more huge titles loom above us. We’ve got coverage of all the stories we think are of interest in video game land this week, including LittleBigPlanets newest delay nightmare, BioShock 2 Sea of Dreams and a certain old skool point and click being remade?

So settle back, we’ve done the hard work for you and sorted the good video game news stories from all the rubbish ones out there. Here we go with this weeks Video Gaming News Rundown!

BioShock 2 trailer hits the internets
BioShock was an awesome game, so awesome we’ll probably be playing through the PS3 version of it in the coming days, even though we’ve finished it on the Xbox 360. The trailer for BioShock 2 is unlocked when you play it through on the PS3 and it found its way to the net this week seemingly titled: “BioShock 2 Sea of Dreams”. The trailer can be seen below.

Are RARE working on a new Killer Instinct game?
Killer Instinct first released way back in 1994. It was a pretty successful fighting title by Rare (and Midway), who this week sparked all manner of speculation by releasing Killer Instinct cards for “Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise”. Now there’s a flurry of rumor Rare are working on a new Killer Instinct title.

Are EA making a new “Syndicate” game?
Syndicate released in 1993 on the Commodore Amiga and it was a cracking tactical title. Word is that EA – who now own the rights to the game – are remaking the title as one of their much discussed “classic franchises”. Gaming seems t be going the way of the remake in much the same way TV is, is it a good thing or a bad thing do you think?

Maniac Mansion remake on the cards?
LucasArts has filed a new trademark for “Maniac Mansion”, that’s a little point and click game from way back that totally rocked the big one one one!! Who knows if it was just an innocent trademark update so they still have the rights to the name, or if there’s bigger plans afoot. All I know is I’d love to see a remake of Maniac Mansion and a few of those other old comedic point and clickers like Day of the Tentacle please!

LittleBigPlanet delayed due to Muslim references?
LittleBigPlanet was due for a release this week but has been hastily recalled by Sony after complaints of a song in one of the levels featured Arabic words from the Qur’an which translated as “Every soul shall have the taste of death” and “All that is on earth will perish”. According to a user on the official Sony forums: “we Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Qur’an deeply offending (sic)” so all copies have been recalled. A new release date is expected to be revealed shortly and is expected to not be longer than a couple of weeks.

   I wonder if they’re more sensitive about Religion after the whole deal with Resistance and the Church of England, or if it’s just a “ZOMG lets not upset the Muslims like that cartoonist guy!” reaction.

   Wait…Maniac Mansion is coming back to PC’s, potentially maybe hopefully? I loved Day of the Tentacle. That and the Hero Quest/Kings Quest/Space Quest games were big parts of my youth.
   Also, Syndicate is coming back??? I am so excited right now about that. I loved loved loved that game. It was so fun to use mind control on random npcs in the game. But that might have been the sequel and not the original. Still, PC goodness in droves.

   At least one can give Sony kudos for an original excuse for delaying the release of a game (LittleBigPlanet). Nov 7 now in Australia, but not holding my breath. I reckon we’ll be lucky to see this little big game before Santa comes.

   I loved that game soooo much, I would try to beat the crap out of my brother to get to use the computer and play it.
