On October 20, 2008, eight influential lesbian bloggers launched 8 Against 8, an eight-day
collaborative online fundraising drive to defeat Proposition 8, a ballot initiative that seeks to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in the State of California.
The bloggers would like to enlist the help of the media in promoting their cause. The bloggers’ 8 Against 8 campaign donation page is located at the following URL: www.8against8.com. Help if you can as these ladies are doing a good thing. Ful press release HERE.
Hey, thanks for posting about the 8 against 8 bloggers. It seems like every time I drive past a house with a “Yes on 8″ placard posted on their lawn, it just feels like a gut punch. Thankfully, there are still quite a few “No on 8″ placards on yards and street corners that are deemed public property. But it has been discouraging to see more “Yes on 8″ (yes on hate!) bumperstickers and placards in the last couple of days. The Mormon church is funneling a ton of money to pass prop 8. Too bad that they don’t understand that separation of church and state is in the best interest of both.
Ah-men to that Spotticus! Every time I see a “yes on 8″ it makes me want to add an H on to make it more accurate. It’s truely a shame people have such short memories that they can’t remember previous supreme court “activism” like the Brown v. Board of Education decision.
It seems reasonable to believe that if this amendment passes then any other drisciminatory law can also pass muster, since the Judges can no longer say that the California State Constitution bars any law which is drisciminatory in nature.
Unlike the mormon church, Seventh Day Adventists oppose the law because they realize how important the seperation of church and state is.
Also, I really REALLY hate the yes on 2 ads. The one where the mother is a bigot is disgusting, the one where they answer back to the school board and talk about incidents in MA (zomg east coast lol) then say how Sex Education is mandatory (it isn’t) and how horrible it is for them the teach about marriage in Sex Education.
Oh yeah, God Forbid teenagers learn how marriage is a contractual agreement between consenting adults that will undermine their parent’s teaching that marriage is what happens when teens get pregnant.
Nice to see this highlighted on your site. I feel sick in the stomach when I think of prop 8 passing. I hope the no vote gets up.
