Heavy Rain is a title we’re following with much interest here at Lesbian Gamers and now we have even more reason to take an interest: Cool female character with a gaydar rating of 8! Yes the latest trailer shows a cool and stereotypical ‘dyke detective’ type getting into all manner of bother.
We’re not saying she is, we’re saying she looks like a virtual rendering of one of the many dyke detectives we read in lesbian fiction (she pulls up on her bike, short hair, leather jacket, boots and gets herself into a whole lot of trouble!). Whether she is or isn’t one thing remains true, this is still on our top titles list for 2009. If you’ve not heard of it, we covered it back in March. Now check out the cool new Heavy Rain gameplay trailer below.
Either way she is a strong female protagonist which is big step forward in the portrayal of women in video games.
Brilliant! it looks absolutely brilliant. makes me wish i owned a PS3. is it coming out on any other platforms?
The trailer and ‘buzz’ from this game has been impressive. The game play sounds totally intense and a little, yes I’ll say it – unique. I just hope that the developers don’t over complicate it all and it ends up a frustrating mess. You’d have to give it a fair go however, with a such a hot playable lass.
hopefully it will be like assassin’s creed and get ported to some other platforms after it’s been exclusive on ps3 for a few months.
I think this is only possible on the PS3, Comicgirl.
I loved Indigo Prophecy and have been watching this title since 2006. Oh it looks amazing. Here’s hoping the story doesn’t fizzle out in the end like it did with IP.
It really looks brilliant.
So sad that it’s a PS3 exclusive.. Like cullen, I am hoping there will be a port later. But that’s probably gonna take a long while, when the developers explicitly favor the PS3 for their game.
In an interview one of them said:
DC: Honestly, working on one platform is the best thing we could dream of, and it’s a choice. [...] I think regarding especially the PC, the PC is generally a frustration for me, both as a developer and as a player.

In the interview it’s obvious that the guy doesn’t want to be convinced of the benefits of a larger player demographic. They want to make a game that leads people to buy a specific console. Fair enough.
I’m interested to see if that gamble pays of.
