Comic-Con 2008 news rundown of all the cool geeky stuff

Comic-con has had a huge amount of geek news come out of its hallowed halls these past few days and we’ve got a round-up of all the geekness you can injest without exploding!

Well that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but we have trawled for hours and picked out what we think is the geek lovers tastiest morsels and we’re dishing them up after the jumperoo in nice little bite sized pieces.

Fringe – Anna Torv goodness and mystery
You know we have a soft spot for Anna Torv here at the geek and we’re really looking forward to her new show Fringe. Comic Con was awash with Fringe goodness including Abram’s saying it will be dark and easy to follow (unlike Lost).

MNU: Multi National United Viral Marketing
Comic-Con 2008 was awash with viral marketing for an as yet un-named project. Posters and other materials led to website D-9.com. Seems like a scifi film will be in the offing August 14 2009. Is it just me or is it reminiscent of Men in Black.

Battlestar Galactica final 10
Episodes, not cylons. Apparently the episodes will feature lots and lots of “upheaval” and there won’t be a happy ‘all things tied up’ ending. The Comic-Con panel for BSG was hosted by huge BSG fan Kevin Smith and needless to say there were no shock reveals by any of the cast in attendance.

Star Wars toys from Hasbro Comic-Con 2008
Man Hasbro had a LOT of toys on show at comic-con and obviously Star Wars and Indiana Jones were there en-force. The col dudes over at The Star Wars Blog have got pictures of so much toy goodness you’ll need a blast shield helmet to shield your eyes!

Smallville gossip, more heroes – slightly spoilery
Apparently season 8 of Smallville is going to introduce a few more comic-book villains and heroes into the fold. One episode will introduce the ‘Legion of Superheroes’, a group of heroes from the future. Chloe will also apparently be getting new powers.. hey at least she’s still in it.

More comic related news
DC Comics dropped the big Neil Gaimen booty with news he’s doing Batman RIP – “whatever happened to the caped crusader?”. It will be written by Gaiman with art by Andy Kubert. On a side note Image comics is publishing a new mini-series, written by Robert Kirkman and based on old Image characters.

True Blood, more sex than vamps
True Blood has had a great viral marketing campaign it has to be said, all about vampire / human clashes and political rights. The trailer shown at Comic-Con was allegedly more human on vamp sex than these things.

No Star Trek at Comic-Con?
Apparently the new Star Trek film was all but ignored at Comic-Con, with director JJ ‘I write EVERYTHING’ Abrams and writers talking anything but. Most folks think it’s because they were there to talk upcoming TV series Fringe, which is a Fox vehicle and the Star Trek flick is of course Paramount. Seems like a missed opportunity to heighten hype to us.

Seek the Six – Prisoner virals
You may or may not be aware that UK cult TV series The Prisoner is being remade. Seek the Six is a website that presently offers nothing but a logo. Personally I don’t think anyone can pull of being a number Six other than Tricia Helfer in a red dress, but hey, maybe that’s just me.

Terminator 4 [Salvation] update
There’ll be no gender stereotyping in the new Terminator film apparently. Yes chicks will be kicking much ass allegedly. Moon Bloodgood (Journeyman) was in the teaser shown, only she was naked… so no ass kicking there, more just ass. Time will tell.
