Seems the developer’s over at DICE have decided to fly in the face of game development rules and norms and not only cast a female lead, but also an Asian female lead – right on! Faith is the lead character from upcoming EA title Mirror’s Edge – a first person title with a difference – it’s based on parkour (l’art du déplacement).
Faith is a courier (runner), she carries sensitive information on foot via the rooftops and skyways, using parkour moves. Faith is the best runner and the storyline sees her in an drenaline-fuelled race to save her sister’s life. We think this looks pretty cool, we’re just not sure how well jumping mechanics work in the FPS genre. It’s kind of on our ‘gaming lore’ list of things FPS titles should never do, as it’s hard to jump when you can’t see your legs – Yes you remember that annoying bridge level on Half Life 2 don’t you people!. Still.. female protagonist named Faith out to save her sister… gotta love that.
Some screenshots after the jump!

Wonder where her tattoo went?
I’d be willing to bet that tats are customizable in the game or might even play an important part in the story. Perhaps the data is encoded in the chemicals used to apply the tat?
My original intention was to just agree about jumping in FPS games. It sucks. It always does.
A female protagonist is always welcome.
