Cooper Lawrence is the devil

Who is Cooper Lawrence and why is she the devil? Well, if you haven’t heard about the Mass Effect fiasco with Cooper at its center, here it is in a nutshell: Fox News had Cooper Lawrence on as their psychology ‘expert’ as they lambasted Mass Effect for its “full digital nudity” and that it sees “women as these objects of desire”.

Cooper Lawrence has a background in developmental psychology and had never even seen the game in question, she was allegedly working from (mis)information she was given prior to going on the air. So here’s the thing, since then Cooper Lawrence has essentially been made the scapegoat for shoddy news on Fox. Sure she said some dumb-ass things, but give us a break, she was a dopey guest “expert” ringed in by Fox to lend weight to their ill researched story.

Due to Cooper’s book being trashed on Amazon by irate gamers and her name now being mud in the gaming Universe, she realized the error of her ways and [sort of] apologized stating “I recognize that I misspoke,” she said. “I really regret saying that, and now that I’ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it’s kind of a joke.– before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it’s like pornography,” she added. “But it’s not like pornography. I’ve seen episodes of ‘Lost’ that are more sexually explicit.”

So Cooper Lawrence realizes she was an ass and she admits it for the world to see. Fox haven’t done diddly and in my mind they’re not suffering the absolute lashing that Cooper Lawrence has, despite members of the fox news panel stating “Who can argue that Luke Skywalker meets Debbie does Dallas is a good thing and I’m definitely not going to let Mass Effect into my house.”.. I don’t even know this guys name and that one statement seems far more damaging to me, but he’s a guy so, we won’t all paint him as a dumb bitch, well other than me… he was a dumb bitch with that statement.

Overall Cooper Lawrence’s main argument was that young impressionable boys are seeing women in video games as objects of desire… she kind of has a point doesn’t she? Sure not relating directly to Mass Effect, because let’s face it, it’s one of the few titles available where a girl can get her bad self out and be the hero, but does she have a semi valid point about gaming overall?

Yes she was dumb to go on air and talk about something she clearly had no clue about, but has Cooper Lawrence learnt her lesson? Was she ‘man’ enough to hold up her hands and admit her wrongdoing? Despite the fact she didn’t have to set the record straight, she did. Even now she’s still being painted as the root of all evil, with one internet commenter stating “I want her to suffer, I want her to know guilt, pain, true suffering, discredibility, how wrong she was about her false facts, and I want to she her life plummet so badly that this will be the last time anyone has ever heard of her!”.. a little harsh don’t you think? Why not expend some of that vitriol on the Fox news network, it was their show and their ridiculous heresy prior to the segment that caused Ms Lawrence to spout off her ignorance.

I’m not saying what Cooper Lawrence did was right, obviously, I’m suggesting she’s been used as the scapegoat whilst Fox sit on their unprofessional asses and do nothing to even begin to apologize for a report that was full of outright misinformation and lies.

   While I appreciate her realizing her mistake and owning up to it, the fact remains that Fox news is nothing but a right wing propaganda outlet that spews this kind of bull shit non stop. Anyone who willingly gets involved with them deserves to get splattered. Now its gonna take her a while to get rid of the stink? Awwww boo hoo, cry my a river.

   The panel were a group of dimwits, I watched in disbelief. The fallout from this is filled with hate, which makes me uncomfortable.
   Really shows gamers to be a mature group of people.
