Guitar Hero: Lesbian Edition

Guitar Hero: Lesbian Edition

The LG Rockin’ Home Page

As Guitar Hero has continued to grow into the mammoth gaming event it is now, people continue to debate whether the choice of songs are worthy of inclusion in the game. With Guitar Hero’s first outing, the series promised a variety of guitar heavy songs that most players could easily relate to. With classic songs such as, I Love Rock And Roll, I Wanna Be Sedated, Smoke On The Water, Take Me Out, Killer Queen, Fat Lip, No One Knows, Ace Of Spades and Bark At The Moon, Guitar Hero covered all the genres and providing songs for rockers of all ages to get down to. The song choice was spot on and spoke not only to the current generation, but to older gamers who loved the chance to play along with some of their favorites. The only genre really missing was grrl rock or something for the ladies who love ladies. There’s no lesbian anthems or singers on any of the Guitar Hero games and therefore it’s only fair we come up with our own set list.

Even as the series moved forward with the release of Guitar Hero II, changes were afoot with the song choices. Sure there were some classic songs in there and some new fresh funky ones. The most memorable were Heart Shaped Box, Mother, Message In A Bottle, Monkey Wrench, Sweet Child o’ Mine, Rock This Town and Psychobilly Freakout. Still, it was evident to any Guitar Hero fan that the series was taking on a definite more metal edge to it. The songs were becoming slightly less mainstream, more obscure and more focused on what ‘true’ metal fans would expect. Still, no out singers were featured and the masculine edge of Guitar Hero seemed to be flourishing. Guitar Hero Lesbian Edition
Guitar Hero Lesbian Edition With the recent release of Guitar Hero III, the songs appear to have become even further skewed to the hard hitting heavy metal side of the scale. Even though the characters have become more accessible (the females are now more tarted up for the male gamers enjoyment), the songs themselves seem to be distancing the average gamer who might want to pick up the game and have a go. The main stand out songs in the newest release are, for me at least, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Rock And Roll All Nite, School’s Out, Welcome to the Jungle and The Devil Went Down To Georgia. Other than that, I couldn’t tell you half the songs and wouldn’t know most of them if I heard them. Touting big names on the soundtrack is no use if the songs by those artists are the least well known ones.
So in the name of fairness, equality and lesbian pride, it is only fair that we unleash our lesbian wish list of songs for the game. For every hard edged rockin’ masculine song, there’s at least a few lesbian anthems that we wish we could play along to on our very own version of Guitar Hero. Whether you’re into grrl rock, girls with guitars, or just some funky female singers, most lesbians will at times sit there thinking.. mannnn I really wish I could rock out to a little Ani or Melissa or whoever. So, for all the grrls into Guitar Hero, here is my own personal wish list and I would love to see some comments on what you would personally include on yours.
Guitar Hero Lesbian Edition
Guitar Hero LEsbians

In no particular order:

Come To My Window – Melissa Etheridge
I Kissed A Girl – Jill Sobule
Gravel – Ani Di Franco
Frozen – Tegan And Sara
Stupid Girls – Pink
Constant Craving – k.d. lang
Closer to Fine – The Indigo Girls
Bring Me To Life – Evanescence
All I Wanna Do – Sheryl Crow
Consider It An Insult – Marla Sokoloff

Wouldn’t it be cool if one day we were so predominant in gaming, with our voices being so important to the developers that ‘Gay & Lesbian Anthems’ was an actual release? Ok so maybe we wouldn’t want gay and lesbian, I can’t imagine strumming along to ‘I Will Survive’ or ‘YMCA’, but a little lesbian torch song here and there wouldn’t be so bad. So there they are, feel free to chastize, debate or downright ridicule me for my choices. I stand by them, even though some are by straight girls who I really wish were lesbians.

Hmm, let’s see.. *scrolls through music collection* What are good guitar songs..
    How about some
    Heart – Barracuda
    Heart – Black On Black
    ZZ Top – La Grange
Wynonna Judd – Girls With Guitars
Garbage – Only Happy When It Rains
Melissa Etheridge – Angels Would Fall
    Santana/Michelle Branch – I’m Feeling You
Ah, I’m probably no good at picking out playable songs anyway. They either rock but the guitar parts are rather simple, or they’re too hard (ZZ Top, Santana).
I like your choices too. Come To My Window and Closer To Fine are nice songs :)

  2. Colvin says:

Nice article. It would be great to get a lesbian version of the game, well, a guitar grrl version anyway.
Kimiko, I think Barracuda is actually one of the songs on Guitar Hero III. You must have your finger on the pulse of GH.

  3. Tizzy says:

A cool idea for an article. What about adding a little more band material.
I would go for the Bangles and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

  4. shi says:

  6. Ana says:

There are endless possibilities for guitar hero, and I’d have to agree… they should make a lez edition!

  7. shawn says:

Pat Benatar – All Fired Up
    Melissa Etheridge

  8. mee says:

the betty theme song from the l word ahahahahahahaah

  9. Pixiedyke says:

    Entertain – Sleater Kinney
    Blender – Amy Ray
    Both Hands – Ani
    Little Plastic Castle – Ani
Song for Ann Bannon – Team Dresch
I for one would love to see a musical version, where you could whip out some Wicked of Avenue Q. Who says you can’t turn that guitar into a violin? Then you could rock the Drag King Bar by Bitch and Animal

  10. PsychDyke says:

La Grange and Barracuda are on GH III.
I’m trying to come up with some possibilities.
    Standard White Jesus-Holly Near
    For Hollywood I Will-Disappear Fear
    (and/or)
    Moment of Glory-Disappear Fear
Walking With a Ghost-Tegan and Sara
    Kissing You-Betty
    The Christians and the Pagans-Dar
    Williams
    I think that
    Closer to Fine
might be a necessity. However, I’d
    say
    Shame on You-Indigo Girls
would be a strong contender. Or
    Joking-Indigo Girls
    It’s only 3 or 4 cords but it’s quick
changes, so it would be a challenge.
    Bring Me Some Water-Melissa Etheridge
    (and/or)
    Brave and Crazy-Melissa Etheridge
Both of these have faster and more
complex guitar parts than many of
    her songs.
AC/DC- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
    Shameless-Ani DiFranco
    I Kissed a Girl-Jill Sobule
Down at the Twist and Shout-
    Mary Chapin Carpenter
    21 Things I Want in a Lover-Alanis
    Morrisette
    “Roll Over Beethoven”-Billie Meyers
    Invincible-Pat Benatar
    Suddenly I See- KT Tunstall
    Driver Education-Amy Ray
The Battle of Evermore-Ann & Nancy
    Wilson
    One Way or Another-Blondie
    Escape (Pina Colada Song)-Captain Jack
    Independent Women Pt. 1-Destiny’s
    Child
    I’m Coming Out-Diana Ross
    Thank You-Dido
My Lovin (You’re never gonna get it)-
    En Vogue
    Woman To Woman-Fem 2 Fem
    I Am Woman-Helen Reddy
Ride Me Like a Wave-Janis Ian
    Somebody to Love-Jefferson Airplane
    Spinster-Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
    Girls’ Night Out-The Judds
Got the Bull by the Horns-k. d. lang
    Shimmer and Glow-Kristie Stremel
(trust me on this one, check her out
    she’s on iTunes)
    Gloria-Laura Brannigan
    Somedays-Meredith Brooks
Don’t You Mess Around With (my little
    sister)-Michelle Shocked
    Valerie-Quarterflash
    Come on Eileen-Save Ferris
    Steve McQueen-Sheryl Crow
    Rosalie-Teresa Trull
    Why?- Tracy Chapman
There you go, enough for the whole game. Now, who’s gonna pitch it?
    Peace,
    Meredith
